I assumed it was a spider and washed the sheets / vacuumed.
No reason to suspect spiders and spider bites as a causative agent. Whenever this gets posted I try to comment. For some reason, unexplained bites or stings or various skin lesions are always attributed to spider bites. It's something that hardly ever happens. You should place some monitoring devices around to see if any crawling creatures can be located.
